5 common mistakes in yoga classes: how to fix them
1. Not listening to your body
If you try something that isn't good for you or hurts, DON'T DO IT. It's that simple. Your body knows best. Don't force yourself, your body isn't ready yet. Another nice aspect of trust is knowing what's enough for you. You don't have to do the splits to be happy. Tailor your practice to your needs and trust that things will only get better over time.
2. Wearing inappropriate clothing for training
Yoga is not about looks. Although it's very trendy, you shouldn't fall for all this yoga marketing. After all, it's not about pants, it's about feelings. You should feel good. And that's all that matters.
Some things won't allow you to move freely. Some will reveal too much and make you (or the people around you) uncomfortable. Just choose clothes that are stretchy and comfortable.
3. Not being consistent
No one is completely transformed in one yoga class. Yoga is a constant and consistent practice. Consistency will allow you to take advantage of the many benefits that yoga provides. Becoming stronger, finding flexibility, finding balance, improving mental focus while reducing stress, losing weight: all of this cannot be achieved in one attempt. All of these things require consistent effort.
Practicing yoga consistently is great because it allows you to really monitor your progress. That's motivating in itself!
4. Pushing too hard, doing too fast
Always be careful not to overdo it (see Point 6). Be gentle with yourself! It's okay if you lose your balance, or just want to take a break, or if you can't seem to do a headstand.
Don't compare yourself to others. There's no point. It's your body, your practice, and you will develop over time and consistently. Just focus on yourself.
5. It's not right to think
If you want to do yoga, do it well! Don't allow yourself to do it "half-heartedly". Yoga will teach you to be in harmony with your soul and body. Yoga is about taking care of yourself. Welcome all its aspects, even those that you may not like yet ... maybe soon everything will change!
If you are skeptical about yoga, then give yourself a month to really try it. Challenge yourself by practicing at least 5 times a week during that time period. Let's be honest. At the end of the month, notice what has changed in you.
